Petition for reconsiderationIn Arabic: التماس إعادة النظر
Definition
A petition for reconsideration is التماس إعادة النظر in Arabic: a challenge to a judgment in the cases the procedure law lists, alongside appeal and cassation.
How it varies across the GCC
In Saudi Arabia the means of objection are appeal, cassation and reconsideration (Law of Procedure before Sharia Courts, article 176). The grounds include a forged paper, a new decisive paper, fraud, a ruling beyond what was claimed, and contradictory rulings (article 200). In the UAE the grounds are article 171 of Federal Decree-Law No. 42 of 2022, and the period is thirty days (article 172). The other states are under review.
The rules that apply to a specific matter depend on the state, any free zone involved and the current text of the law, so check the official source before relying on them.
