A worked example for each country

The figures are the statutory arithmetic above, not a judgment and not a ministry printout.

  • Saudi Arabia, last wage 10,000, seven years, employer termination: 5 × ½ × 10,000 + 2 × 10,000 = 45,000 (Art. 84).
  • UAE, last basic 10,000, seven years: (21 × 5 × 10,000 + 30 × 2 × 10,000) ÷ 30 = 55,000. Cap 240,000 not reached (Art. 51).

What is not calculated

  • Probation, Article 81 resignations, force majeure, and a woman ending the contract within six months of marriage or three months of birth are stated on the guide. They are not a field here.
  • Unpaid absence, commissions, part-time work, UAE nationals, the voluntary savings scheme, domestic workers, DIFC and ADGM, and dismissal for cause remain under review.
  • Old unlimited-contract resignation cuts from before 2022 are not the UAE rule in force. Private-sector contracts are fixed-term, and Article 51 applies without that cut.

Questions

Questions about the calculator

How is the Saudi award calculated?

Article 84: half a month’s last wage for each of the first five years, and a full month after that, with fractions of a year counting. On employer termination or contract end that award is paid without an Article 85 reduction.

What if the worker resigns in Saudi Arabia?

Article 85: nothing under two consecutive years; one third from two to five years (five included); two thirds above five and under ten; the full award at ten or more. The fraction is of the Article 84 award.

How is the UAE gratuity calculated?

Article 51 for a full-time foreign worker: after one year of continuous service, 21 days’ last basic wage for each of the first five years and 30 days after that. Nothing under one year. The total cannot exceed two years’ wage. Daily wage = monthly basic ÷ 30, so the day-counts can be applied to a monthly figure.

Does resignation reduce the UAE gratuity?

Under the rule in force, private-sector contracts are fixed-term and Article 51 has no resignation cut. Pre-2022 unlimited-contract cuts are not in this calculator.

Is anything due if the worker leaves in the first year?

In the UAE a full-time foreign worker is entitled to nothing under one year of continuous service. In Saudi Arabia the resignation bands start at two years; an employer termination still applies Article 84 to the fraction of the year.
