Urgent (summary) proceedingsIn Arabic: القضاء المستعجل
Definition
Urgent (summary) proceedings are القضاء المستعجل in Arabic: a temporary application in the cases the procedure law lists, without deciding the underlying right.
How it varies across the GCC
In Saudi Arabia the urgent claims include inspection, a travel ban, possession, stopping new works, receivership and daily wages (Law of Procedure before Sharia Courts, article 206). The summons is twenty-four hours (article 207). The time for objecting to an urgent ruling is ten days (article 187). In the UAE the judge of urgent matters is referred to in article 247 of Federal Decree-Law No. 42 of 2022. The article that confers urgent jurisdiction is under review.
The rules that apply to a specific matter depend on the state, any free zone involved and the current text of the law, so check the official source before relying on them.
