When a special power of attorney is the right draft
Use this page when the agent may do one named act: a sale, a claim, a bank act, a company filing. In Saudi Arabia a special agency is valid for a defined type of act (Article 483), and any act beyond administration needs a special agency (Article 484).[6] The instrument issued on Najiz is the one that binds.[1]
- Name the act in clause 2. Do not write “all my affairs”.
- Fill in both parties’ identity, capacity and the term.
- If an agent files a claim on Najiz, the power must be in force and include authority to plead.[3]
- UAE notary practice varies by emirate. Abu Dhabi has an English-language notary bureau.[4] Other emirates are under review.
UAE notary and judicial-department variants
In Abu Dhabi a notary public notarises customary documents under Law No. 11 of 2017 on the notary public in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. A document is not notarised if it violates the law or public order, or falls within another entity’s competence.[4] The UAE Ministry of Justice publishes an e-Notary page.[5]
- Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, Article 869, in force on 1 June 2026: an agency may be general, special, conditional or deferred.
- Dubai and the northern emirates: the notary route for a special wakala is under review. Ask the body that will receive the instrument.
- If the recipient accepts a letter that is not notarised, use the authorization letter.

Special power of attorney
A draft special power of attorney for the UAE and the wider GCC: parties, one named act, limits, duration and revocation. It is not a general power of attorney and not a substitute for the issued instrument. Replace every [placeholder].
I, [Principal: name, ID, address], being of full capacity, appoint [Agent: name, ID, address] to act for me in the single act named in clause 2.
The Principal’s capacity: [in person / as agent under a power of attorney / owner of an establishment / representative of a company].
This instrument is a special power of attorney. It is limited to this act: [describe the sale / claim / bank act / company filing / other named transaction], before [the body], and not beyond [●].
Drafting note
Name the act. In Saudi Arabia a special agency is valid for a defined type of act (Article 483). General words that do not specify the type of act are not valid (Article 482).[6]
For the act in clause 2 only, the Agent may: lodge and receive documents, sign [●], collect notices, and [other incidental steps]. The Agent may not gift, settle, release, waive a right, borrow, or dispose of other property unless clause 2 says so in terms.
Drafting note
If an agent files a statement of claim on Najiz, the power of attorney must be in force and include authority to plead.[3]
Option: the Agent may not appoint a substitute.
Option: the Agent may appoint a substitute within [limits], and remains responsible for that choice.
This power of attorney runs from [date] until [date or completion of the named act], unless it ends sooner by revocation, withdrawal or death.
Drafting note
An electronic power of attorney on Najiz does not exceed one year.[1]
The Principal may revoke the Agent by written notice. The Agent may withdraw by written notice. Tell the other party, and any third party dealing with the Agent, when that is possible.
Drafting note
Either party may partially withdraw on Najiz or in the Najiz app. It ends automatically if a party dies.[1]
Use this draft to settle the wording. The power of attorney that works is the one issued on Najiz or before the competent notary. If the Arabic and English texts conflict, the Arabic text prevails in Saudi Arabia. This is a starting point. Have it reviewed by a lawyer licensed in the relevant jurisdiction before you use it.
